Additional Materials

We are in the process of creating one of the world's largest collections of rich media materials devoted entirely to the study of teaching. If you have materials that you might like to add to our collection, or if you need access to such materials, please contact rvanhorn@unf.edu. Listed below are some of the kinds of materials we presently or soon will have available.

Video

By the end of 2001, we will have 6 First Grade Study of Teaching Videos. During the spring of 2001, we will add about that number of Fourth Grade videos. Then based on user feedback, we will either begin to create kindergarten or middle school videos.

The First Grade Study of Teaching Videos have been edited down from original 15-20 minute, single camera, source tapes. The First Grade Videos were done in Hi-8 format. The edited 3-6 minute videos are available in a variety of digital and analog formats including 640x480x30fps uncompressed digital video files (approximately 1.5 GB) and 320x240x15fps QuickTime files (about 50-150MB each). In the latter format all six videos easily fit on a single CD-ROM disc. Of course the videos can also be recorded on any format videotape.

Video with Narrations

We are contemplating creating videos with alternative audio tracks with narrations explaining the subtle expert practice exhibited by the teacher(s) on the videos. Since such narrations would diminish the use of the videos to help neophytes become better at observing teaching, it is unlikely that videos like this will be available on the Web site.

360 Panoramas

We will soon have a collection of 360 degree Panoramas of exemplary classroom layouts used by master teachers. Contact us for more information.

Answers to Study Questions

We have suggested answers to the Study Questions available to professors, staff developers, and others. We do not have these available on the Web site because professors might like to assign students to study the videos and answer the questions on their own. Contact us if you would like a copy of these suggested answers.

Professional Development Materials

Materials in the Study of Teaching collection are great resources for use in school district professional development efforts. Please contact us if you are interested in using materials in the collection for this purpose.
