Effective immediately, the Electronic Scholar is creating a Media for the Children award to be presented once per semester. Award recipients will be presented with a cash award of $200, a certificate of acknowledgment, and their work will be featured on the www.electronicscholar.com Web site.
The purpose of the Media for the Children award is to encourage the use of new media to explain and portray significant educational research to teachers, parents, administrators, politicians, and the general public. The gap between the researcher and the practitioner must be narrowed.
Applicants for the Media for the Children award may be individuals or groups of either high school or college students who are enrolled in pertinent courses. Pertinent courses are any graphic design, multimedia, Web design, communications, computer applications, new media, or similar class at a high school, community college, art school, or university.
To be considered for the award, entries must inform the public of research findings pertinent to K-12 school children. Each semester, the Electronic Scholar will post a topic and pertinent research about which the applicants will create a short public service announcement using new media. Topics for the 2001-02 academic year are listed below with links to winning entries.
